§ 1812. Purpose and intent.

  • (a)

    The purpose of this article is to regulate and govern the conditions and maintenance of all buildings, structures and premises in the unincorporated portions of the county, by providing the standards for physical things and conditions essential to ensure that buildings, structures and premises are safe, sanitary, and fit for occupation and use.

    (b)

    It is the intent that existing buildings, structures and premises that do not comply with the provisions of this article shall be altered or repaired to provide a minimum level of health and safety as required by the standards of this article.

    (c)

    The requirements of this article are not intended to provide a basis for removal or abrogation of fire protection and safety systems and devices in existing structures.

    (d)

    This article shall be construed to secure its expressed intent, which is to ensure public health, safety and welfare insofar as they are affected by the continued occupancy and maintenance of structures and premises.
