§ 36-54. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Arterial road means a street which is used primarily for fast and heavy traffic flow, is of considerable continuity, and is used as a traffic artery for interconnection among large areas. These streets are designated to have a right-of-way width of 100 feet.

    Collector road means a street which carries traffic from activity centers on local streets to arterial streets. The streets are designated to have a right-of-way width of 80 feet.

    Local street means a street used primarily for access to abutting properties or developments, serving to carry traffic to collector streets or arterial streets. Local streets comprise all streets not classified as collector or arterial.

    Miles per hour means the rate of speed or number of miles in an hour that a vehicle is traveling along a street or road.

    Roadway means any public road or street which is an arterial road, collector road or local street.

    Speed limit means the posted number corresponding to the number on the speedometer of a motorized vehicle representing the maximum allowable speed for a vehicle traveling along county maintained roadway in the county.

    Speedometer means a device showing rate of speed.
